I'm turned off by raw meat. I can tolerate seeing raw steak, but I prefer ground beef, because it doesn't really look like "flesh". I feel ill if I see it bleeding, but I manage.
Raw fish doesn't bother me, as long as it's cleaned (i.e. salmon steaks or tilapia fillets in a supermarket's meat department). I could never "gut" a fish, tho; I almost get sick just seeing it on TV!
What I can't seem to get over is my disgust at raw POULTRY. If I see a whole raw turkey with skin, I can't stand it! I don't even like skinless boneless chicken breasts, since I still have to TOUCH them. I'm grateful I don't have to remove the skin & bones (I don't think I could!), but I still don't like touching the meat. It feels so bad that I'm considering wearing gloves. I also don't like how it LOOKS.
Am I alone in feeling this way? I don't WANT to, but I wonder if it's too late? I think the prob is that as a child, I wasn't exposed enough to this stuff, so I never got over the "gross factor".

Well, how many times have you tried? I think if you really want and need to get used to preparing it (like if you have a family you need to cook for, etc....) you should "just do it." Set a specific goal to make yourself prepare chicken breasts, say, 3 more times..... and see if it gets any easier. Maybe finding some recipes you really think sound good would motivate you as well.
Also, be sure to rinse it really well under cold running water - that might help your brain feel that it's more "clean."

I understand completely. The grocery store meat dept grosses me out also.
I wear vinyl gloves when handling raw meat & poultry.
At home I use lots of nuts, seeds, beans & dairy for protein & save the meat for eating out, but I do buy precooked chickens regularly. Occasionally, I will heat up a frozen entree to have meat or poultry without having to really look at or handle it.
Good luck.

I.m with you! My husband laughs because I hate touching raw meat and I always wear gloves.
Mine is being over exposed, I think. My family use to be great hunters and fishermen. We also raised rabbit ts and chickens and assorted livestock to eat. Everybody cleaned fish, cut up rabbits and chicken. Butchered and freezer processed venison, etc. What a bloody mess, I always swore I would only have meat packaged from the market when I married.
Surprise, I still hated to touch it. And , my husband fishes and hunts, Oh, well, what's a girl to do? Shut up and be thankful for good food on the table, I guess! LOL

Maybe your body/brain is telling you to stop eating meat - are you grossed out by raw veggies or tofu?
Give meatlessness a try - cooking might be more pleasureable

A box of surgical gloves is pretty cheap. I always use them when handling raw meat just for the safety of it. So does my husband.
They also do double-duty if you have any other gross chores, like cleaning the drain or cleaning up a pet accident. Don't want any of that under your nails!

I've never been that grossed out by raw meat. I guess you should just try not to think about it.

I only eat meat when it is cooked by other people. I've been a vegetarian for some time, so this doesn't bother me. Try it!

I am a big meat eater.. Love it..I can gut a fish, clean a chicken.. you would hate it here in Spain.. they sell chickens two ways.. clean and not clean.. I am referring to internal organs.. the cleaned chickens are more expensive... fish are normally gutted at the supermarket, but they come with heads and tails to take home with ya...None of it bothers me at all.. I am a true carnivore.. Don't get me started on the rabbits here.
