At first I was thinking the same as the other people above me (flag, Constitution, etc), but then I started thinking about what it means to be an American.
Another way to look at this is what could you NOT take to school if you didn't live in the USA? What is something that we may think is so insignificant that another country would ban, or worse, punish the child that brought it to school with them?

I vote for a flag and a copy of the constitution. Be warned, some will consider both to be offensive.

Wear a small flag pin in honor of those brave men and women who are not afraid to go to dangerous places and protect the rest of us so that we can constantly complain about how bad we have it.
