I had two citizenships, neither of them American - one of my parents was an American citizen, but no paperwork was submitted on my behalf for residency. Thus, I was not a resident. I had to actually get Permanent Resident status (Green Card) as an adult before I was able to enlist. Weirder things have happened to other people.

The days in which nationals from other countries could enter the service through various programs are more or less over. You need to be a citizen, or be a Permanent Resident. And if you're not a citizen, you're ineligible for a security clearance, and thus restricted from a wide variety of jobs.

If you're still in high school, you're under the age of 18 hopefully. Paperwork is easier for a minor when it comes to residency. Talk to your dad and get that taken care of. Good luck.

How can your dad be a resident, buy you're not? Where were you born?

In order to join the military, any branch, you either have to be a citizen of the US, OR have a I-551 card (green card) showing that you are a Permenant Alien Resident. If you were born in the US, then you are a citizen.

To join the USA forces you need to be a citizen( born or naturalised) of the USA. Being purely resident on a green card will not give entitlement to a military post.

Yes, you can, call a recruiter and have them explain the paperwork you need. My brother in law was born in the Dominican Republic. He joined the airforce before he became a naturalized citizen. In fact millitary service cuts down the time it takes to become a citizen. Good luck!!

I was enlisted with a woman who was a British citizen. As such, there were only a few jobs she could qualify for in the Air Force. I don't know how the other branches work.

Yes you may join and it will assist you in becoming a citizen. Talk to a recruiter and join the delayed entry program.

yes, you can join the military although your options will be more limited and your service might disqualify your citizenship to your home country as well. this is, however, a great way to get the process going on receiving american citizenship if that's what you want.

sure can. isn't that crazy? At some point you do have to get your citizenship to get promoted. Jobs will be limited due to security issues.
I've worked side by side with people from the UK that were in the US army. go figure.
