The best brand is either the Farouk CHI or the Corioliss...i have had issues with J'ibere.... i have about 10 straighteners and my best advice to you is if you have highly unmangeable hair use a CHI u get shine and silky straight hair...if you have nearly straight hair and are just getting out kinks dont waste you money on a CHI you can get good results with vidal sassoon or conair 25 dollar straightener... the first three are roughly a 100 dollars.... make sure its cermaic plated though...its the easiest on your hair and maintains the heat the best and most evenly

A really great one that will last a long time with extremely impressive results is called the sedu. They run in the high 100's. but you can get one for $125 at folica.com under 'flat irons' in the side bar. I own a decent one that cost me about $30 and for that amount it works great. It gets to about 400 degrees. It is by hot tools. Either way folica.com has a wide variety in all price ranges. You should check it out. The hot tools one is on sale for 19.99 right now and it comes with a free mat so you can set it down and not burn your counter top. You can also fold it up inside the mat for travel purposes. For $20 it is AMAZING. With most flat irons you usually get what you pay for though which is why i highly reccommend this one if you are looking for a low price. The site also has tons of reviews from customers in case you still aren't sure.

I have tried a couple and this is the best. I have dry hair that is curly and wavy which makes straightening a bad idea on a regular basis because it dries your hair. With this iron it is ceramic which is gentler on your hair and you can straighten your hair while it is still damp.
I have very thick hair and it takes very high heat to affect it -- this iron takes one time to straighten a piece of hair and it looks shinier and doesn't dry my hair as much.
You can also use it to curl your hair.
It has an adjustable heat setting and it takes about 1 minute or so to get as hot as the hottest setting so it's perfect for last minute straightening. My entire head (very thick, coarse, curly hair) takes 5-6 minutes.

Not many people use straightening irons anymore... now they make straighteners- thin V-shaped things that you use like tweezers on your hair. They cost $10-30, depending on how good and high-tech they are, although mine only cost $19 I think. I use Conair, it works well and I have no problems with it.

Any by Jilbere or Revlon. Also Paul Mitchell has a good smmothing iron, but it can be pricey. Jilbere and Revlon irons will run you between $30-$60, Paul Mitchell will run you around $120-$140.

Chi is the best for me! It costs usually anywhere from 80-100 dollars, but it's soooo worth it! That's what all my friends use whose hair is REALLY curly and you can't hardly tell their hair is curly after they are done. It's the best.

Any Conair brand is great to use! Mine cost me less than $30 and it works like a charm.

The sedu ceramic flat iron is the best.
Get more info at this blog...http://jenniferanistonseduhairstyles.blogspot.com
You can only buy the sedu iron at a few places online.
The manufacturer set it up that way, so beware of fakes.

In my experience as long as it is ceramic your in good shape. YOu don't need to go and spend $150.00 for the really nice one. Just go to your local beauty supply (sally, ulta) ehatever you have in your area. Try using a heat protection product on your hair and don't over heat.
