Just curious to see what people think...

Is it enough for someone who commits a sin to be genuinly, and sincerely, sorry that they did? Is it even a little compensation that someone does a sin, but reluctantly, and feels really bad for it afterwards?

No, but its a start.

Catholics believe that a penitent person asking God for forgiveness:

+ Is contrite of heart. Contrition is sorrow of the soul and detestation for the sin committed, together with the resolution not to sin again.

+ Confesses his or her sins. Through such an admission the penitent person looks squarely at the sins he is guilty of, takes responsibility for them, and thereby opens himself again to God and to the communion of the Church in order to make a new future possible.

+ Practices complete humility and fruitful satisfaction. God takes away sin, but it does not remedy all the disorders sin has caused.
. + One must do what is possible in order to repair the harm against your neighbor (e.g., return stolen goods, restore the reputation of someone slandered, pay compensation for injuries).
. + Raised up from sin, the sinner must still recover his own full spiritual health by doing something more to make satisfaction for his sins. This satisfaction is also called "penance."

Penance can consist of prayer, an offering, works of mercy, service of neighbor, voluntary self-denial, sacrifices, and above all the patient acceptance of the cross we must bear. Such penances help configure us to Christ, who alone expiated our sins once for all.

With love in Christ.

well if you genuinley reppent and ask god to guide you and keep you from the same mistakes then that is all that is needed.
then you can move on, first there is the submission stage and this takes courage on your part, second (and it seems as if we all fall into this trap) then the guilt and shame come along,
well let me tell you that this is not the work of God but of the Ego, it wants you to feel bad and ashamed for what you have done, said or thought. the Ego on the other hand (which is not of God will leave you with fear (False Evivence Appering Real)

the next step is recognising what is real and what is not, this unreal will destroy all your peace and pull you back from any spiritual experience, as a result of your previous confessions to God ( ohh yes he is cunning, he will have you believe that God is punnishing you) yet all the time it is he) maniffesting himself in the unreal

all power is of God

what is not of Him has no power to do anything.

ps

take every thought captive and see how much manufacturing has been created around it, 9 out of ten it has been created and is not real)

You should try to correct the sin by your hand, (an action to correct or better the situation) if possible. If you cannot, then by mouth (apologies, correct the damage verbally) if possible. Or do something good for another person with an open heart but not for the purpose of self gratification. The very least, say something good to another along with true regret and intention of not repeating the sin.

It's okay they feel bad about committing a sin, but with the change of heart must come a change of action.

This person you speak must repent, which means to turn and walk in another direction. Just being sorry is not enough.

No, i do not think it is enough to feel sorry, and this is why-the bible says that we need to repent and turn from our sins. We need to be forgiven and accept forgiveness from God and we need to change our thoughts and actions, and that we need to allow God to work through us. If we do not have Jesus in our hearts and follow His word, it will not matter, in the end we will lose out on what is the greatest promise of eternal life with Him. If you are truly sorry, the bible says, then you would be willing to do whatever it takes to get right with God, and this is the only way. Does that make sense to you? Hope that helps you.

Depends on what the "sin" is. Remember that you are born with a dual nature. Good comes out of bad--Life comes out of death, etc, etc...

If your sin was "fornication" or something stupid--forget it and rejoice that the deities gave you a pleasureable reproductive ability!!

If your sin was murdering someone--well then you have some karmic debt to pay.

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Yes as long as you repent and try not to commit the sin again

This isn't really Biblically-based, but I believe God uses guilt so that we come back to Him.

If you feel guilt after commiting a wrong, that is a VERY, VERY good thing. That indicates what is known as discernment. Discernment comes to us through the Holy Spirit In being overwhelmed with guilt, it causes us to confess our wrong to God. Once you do so, you will notice that feeling of guilt will melt away. That is evidence of God's unfailing love and forgiveness for our sins.

look at it this way - you could comprehend that possibly this ingredient isn't a sturdy ingredient and end your habit devoid of feeling undesirable approximately it. the significant ingredient is to bear in ideas that repentance is approximately obedience. some might even argue that in case you obey, and repent, then those emotions of "badness" in the direction of the sin will come alongside in time. (i'm hoping that made experience, i became having a tricky time determining a thank you to word it....)
