If a law is passed that children cannot be introduced to any religion and that they are free to choose any religion –if they want to- only when they reach eighteen, would the world become godless? If not, what would be the major religion?

It would be very difficult for children not to be introduced to religion. Their parents would be raising their children based on their beliefs to some degree.

BTW - you're pretty much free to choose any religion at 18 anyway... it's just whether you want to suffer the consequences of that choice.

People generally decide what to accept as truth while they grow up, so I do think the population of atheists and agnostics would rise a large amount. Some people go through a crisis and their lives and convert (either to a religion or they leave it), but really, few people have radically different beliefs from their parents.

The percent of atheists would be high. I think for religions to succeed, they have to brainwash the person at a somewhat young age. If religion is introduced later in life, I doubt it would have such a strong hold on the person.

To function in the world you have to have ethics. there are certain ethical standards that are common to all religions. Choosing a religion is simply ethical fine tuning.

It can never happen in the u.s. due to the constitution. Freedom of religion, and with the fact that there are so many religious people in this country, it will never happen.
