it is caused from the gases in the synovial joints that under pressure cause this popping noise. It is not dangerous, at least that's what my chiropractor told me although it is scary sounding like your neck is breaking!

It could be dangerous. I had a neurologist tell me that it can actually dislodge blood clots in your carotid artery and cause a stroke. Whether that is true or not, I don't know - maybe she said it to get me to stop cracking my neck.

I certainly hope it's not dangerous. I have been doing this dozens of times a day for the last, oh, let's see.... five decades.......no problems to report yet.

i can do it too and it's a relief when i do it but it think it's the CO2 in the synovial fluid (that's in the joint's, in our bones) popping, but i'm not sure if it's dangerous.

I can crack my neck. I think that it can cause some problems, but this is rare. I can also crack my wrists, fingers, back, elbow, ankles, toes, knees, and my new one is my jaw.
