Ok, I know it's pathetic...
But every time I try.. I either:
1) Don't cook it enough, try to flip it, and it messes everywhere
2) Burn it
I butter both sides of the bread, put a slice of cheese in the middle, and put it on a pan on the stove.
Seriously,
Why do I suck at this?
How long are you supposed to leave the dang thing there?!

The trick to making great grill cheese: OIL.
You might not ever guess this, but grilled cheese has to be DEEP FRIED.
You also need at least 2 to 3 pieces of cheese.
Heres what you do:
1. Butter both sides of the bread like you normally do, and place 2 slices of cheese in the center.
2. Pour about one fouth cup of canola oil or olive oil into a frying pan & heat the oil on medium heat until hot.
(you basically want the entire bottom of the pan coated with oil)
3. Place the sandwich into the oil and FRY for about 1 minute..Turn over and cook the other side..Flip agian if necessary.
4. Remove from pan and drain on a paper towel.
5. Viola. You're done.
Peace

Put it on a grill (or frying pan) on medium fire. Spread butter on both sides of the bread, put the buttered side on the grill, immediately put the cheese on it, wait a few minutes till bread is golden brown and close it for a second or two. That should do it! ENJOY!

try instead of butter try mayo on the bread so lower heat, put in pan 1 slice of bread with the cheese when the cheese looks like it is starting to melt, put the other on top after a couple of seconds, flip the sandwich after a several more seconds, turn off pan & it will finish with the heat

Have you tried a toasted cheese sandwich? It's easier to make and doesn't involve a pan or butter. Two slices of bread, a slice of cheese on each, toast in the toaster oven on your regular setting or a little longer. When toasted, put them together or eat separately. It works best with American cheese.

umm perhaps put it on a lower temperature so you don't burn it too fast and wait until the cheese looks kind of melty. then flip it to see if you like how done the first side is. wait until it looks melty so it can be stuck together. i put two slices of cheese, maybe that helps them stick together more but perhaps i am just a pig. good luck and just remember to practice!

Get a sandwich maker. They're like $9 and they make perfect grilled cheese every time!
I make mine on the George Foreman too, but it kind of squishes it.
