Go to a NICE salon that has apprentices.
At my salon a regular haircut can be $100, but the trainee haircut is only $20.
The Trainee has been all the way through beauty school, plus special training for that salon. The whole haircut is monitored by their mentor, a high level stylist.
When I had it done it was the best hair cut I had in my life, and only $7 more dollars than "super cuts" you get at the mall.
Frizzy thick hair will need special handling to make it perform it's best. I.e. to make it shiny and have good movement. Not look chunky and dead.
The secret to really good looking hair isn't in the products you use, it is in the cut.
A great cut will look good with a minimum of products and styling for at least 6 weeks. You should be able to get away with low cost shampoo and conditioners $3-4, and a light hairspray and a palmade (try crew$10).
On the other hand, if you go cheap on the cut, you can spend a bunch of money on pricy shampoo and conditioner, shine enhancer, volumizer, and spend 2 hours trying to coax your hair into the dirrection you want it to stay in. And it will fight you the whole time.
The secret is a good cut, spluge there, skimp everywhere else if you have to.

I have really thick, curly, and frizzy hair. I have found that it's definatly easier to manage when it's long because it kind of weighs down the poof and when you cut it short it grows back thicker. Whatever you do don't get it thinned! You should try long layers which will help to get rid of some of the poof that curly hair has. That would be the best method to remove the bulk!

layers did wonders for my frizz thick hair, though my hair was previously wavy and became super curly because of the loss of the weight from my previously thick long hair... and besides layers are flattering

1. buy some scissors at the store
2. open the pack of scissors
3. pull the 2 ends of the plastic end apart
4. put it by your head
5. push the 2 ends together
then you just cut your nappy hair

your prob better to have your hair layered and have the thinning scissors put through it as well, if you keep it all the same length it will stack making your hair look even bigger, you should try some de frizzing products on your hair as well!
