OK a little more information what lead up to this did you replace the flywheel manual trans or flex plate auto trans? or just put it on upside down? The 3.5 engine four cam engine parts won't should not work on the VG 3.0 or the VG 3.3 engine. And thinking it is a 1995 pathfinder almost all of those were automatic transmissions. Just a thought.. but some flywheels are offset where the outside of the flywheel not even with the inside slines. Mounting a flywheel of this type will produce the problem you are taking about.

Second to that, could the starter be for an automatic and instead of standard or vice versa? This could also cause the problem.

Hope this helps!
