One of my puppies (boxer, female) was breathing funny like she was choking. So I told my daddy to take her to the vet. He toke her today while I was in school. When I got home he told me to go outside and check her because he had giving her some benadryl because he thought it would help her. And now her eyes are all swollen. The vet said she may have bronckitus, or pneamonia. But we haven't gotten any medicine or anything for her yet. What do you think it is, and what should we do.

It sounds to me like she could have an allergic reaction. Benedryl is a good thing and should be given about every 6 hours. I would also consider taking her to another vet - this one sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. She doesn't have heart worms by chance, does she? Heart worms can cause great amounts of swelling and can cause a dog to seem as though they would have bronchitis or pneumonia. It seems strange that the vet didn't give her any medications with a diagnosis like that. Good Luck

IF he took the dog to a vet do whatever the vet said- and if you see no improvement within 48 hours call the vet back and go from there. Giving dogs human medicine can be tricky and only recommended when theres not a better dog medicine for the pet. I've heard fo giving a dog aspirin and benedryl but you have to be VERY careful and give them the kids formula in a small dose! If the vet said it may be bronchitis or pneumonia and did not treat the dog- you need to contact a different vet. Good luck!

Go with your dad to the vet and the puppy, to make sure the puppy actually goes. It is rare, but puppies can be allergic to benedryl. You're dog might have a life threatening disease or illness. It might be as simple as a bee sting, could be pneumonia. Could be so many things, that the vet is the best thing for her right now.

If your Dad brought your dog to the Vet, the Vet would have given him medication for him to bring home and administer to the puppy. WHY IS THE SICK PUPPY OUTSIDE????????????

If he doesn't REALLY take her to the Vet, call Animal Control and at least you will know she is getting the help she needs. Or else, she might die.

Sometimes choices are difficult and hard to make the right decision, but we as pet owners are trusted to take care of our pets. I have to wonder.... does your Dad deserve that trust and loyalty.

Sorry to be point blank, but I only speak the truth.

Listen to the vet, but call and report any changes in her condition - such as the eyes swelling. Benadryl is good thing to try, but it sounds like it is not getting the job done. So, call the vet & he may need to do a follow up visit. Good luck & I hope she gets better soon!

If the vet diagnosed either condition, they should have prescribed a medication. Could even be Kennel Cough, but an antibiotic needs to be given. Benedryl will not help. I kinda doubt that your dad took the dog to the vet.

Benadryl contains an antihistamine which can have that efffect even on humans! It is a grave mistake to give human drugs to animals. Please take your dog back to the vet.

You should follow whatever advice the vet gives you. Definately give her medicine! Pamper her, and if she is sick, mabey you should keep her inside.
