Immigration is always done for selfish reasons.....
Most people, including your ancestors, unless they were natives, came here for a better life...Can you fault people for seeking a better life? I can't, or I would be hypocritical, because my family are also immigrants, seeking a better life....

We are ALL immigrants of greater or lesser degree. For example, I personally am a 3rd generation Canadian. My father's mother was born in Manitoba in 1890. So I am a Canadian, with an immigrant past. Even those people we consider indigenous personnel had ancestors that immigrated to this country thousands of years ago. So, the whole world's population are immigrants, except for maybe just a few black tribes in Africa.
I was reading a book recently that had as it's surmise, a forced equalling of the world's peoples, by mixing all breeds and colours into a homogeneous whole. And then getting rid of religions. They surmised that it began earth's final world war, which was the springboard that launched humanity to the stars (in order to escape earth's destruction).
I would rather see us solve our problems by becoming tolerant of all our different colours and different religions. We all want freedom of choice. We should all realize that we need the freedom to not have other people's choices foisted on us!

Immigration is primarily for economic reasons. No matter what anyone writes in a text book. No on came to North America for "religious freedoms". They couldn't own land where they were. So they came to an "unsettled" region of the world to get their plot of land. African and indigenous peoples were the only forced immigration on the continent. They were the instruments for economic gain.

Talking about birds??.. The question is more complex than the simple alternatives that you give. Sometimes it helps both parties, sometimes it hurts. Or it could have a zero sum effect.

Legal immigration is good and we all hail from it OR illegal alien immigration is wrong, destroying America and importing horrendous crime via gangs, drug cartels and scammers. We love legal immigration but we hate (and will curtail and stop) illegal immigration. Clear, isn't it?
