I am asking what the **** is satanism and why isn't it considered devil worship.

I'm not an authority, but ..... devil worship exists mainly in popular fiction, TV and movies. And in the minds of maladjusted teens and other misfits.
Satanism, I've heard, is more about glorification of self than worship of that butthead satan.
I am happy to say that I actually learned this HERE a few weeks or months ago. So learning CAN actually happen here! Not just bickering.

Niki's H's answer is exactly what i would say. Satanism is some kind of group or organization but devil worship is something that you wouldn't know you were doing. Like going to the clubs and drinking and partying is basically worshiping the devil becuase you are doing the things that he wants you to do even though u may not know it. Like having sexual relationships that are going too far is worshiping the devil.

To the answer above, Goth has nothing to do with Satanism!
It's not a religion it's a lifestyle, people involved in the Gothic movement have a variety of religious beliefs including Christianity, Atheism, Wicca, Paganism, ect.
Just thought I'd clear that up.

Devil Worship is an action. Satanism is a movement. Devil worship is what you do in Satanism.

OMG wow you are all really ignorant, a Satanist is someone who follows the doctrine of self enlightenment, open to new and progressive ideals whilst believing that their own drive and determination is the ultimate factor determining their faith. Rejecting the notion of supernatural or excessive outside influence! Just like Satan believed he was the most powerful influence on his own life...that s it. That s all Satanism is about! They don t worship the devil and plot the ending days of the world, they simply believe that they are in control of their own future. Do a little research first....

Satanism is, I guess, Goth. And the Christians seem to think that Devil Worship is anything but their religion. (or is it just us goin to Hell?LOL)

satanism is atheism on overdrive.
devil worship would probably be the worship of the negative deity in the christian religion.
