They are supposed to be clean if they are properly maintained and chlorinated....however, when I look at them all I can see is a big swirling petri dish. Gross.

I've heard that they are--the warm water being a great breeding ground for bacteria. I guess that's why it is important to have enough chlorine, but that isn't great for to be inhaling regularly. Perhaps they have saltwater baths, just like they have saltwater pools??

I think it is pretty nasty because people, pee, fart, I see some people blow their noses in there, nose hair, pubic hair, etc. Even if there is chlorine, it doesn't kill everything. I dont care how much chlorine is in there, it is still a breeding pool for all sorts of bacteria and people's pubic hair. The same for regular pools too!!

Only if they aren't cleaned out well and that includes doing a flush of the jets and hoses. They sell kits that do this job.
