I just got back from the 4th weeding this year. I simply mill around, dirnk all the red wine I can find, talk to random strangers, eat all the finger food and then go and try to find my wife who's probably talking with someone she knows. Once you get in the groove, it's kind of hard to stop. People kept asking me "how you know so-and-so" and I would tell different stories each time, confusing the hell out of everyone. I also did some business on my phone for about a 1/2 hour.

If you don't like anybody at the wedding, why go?? who do you know the groom or the bride?? No sense of going to the wedding if you aren't going to have any fun.

Just act it out...wedding ceremonies dont last too long...smile and look pretty...then when you get to the reception hall, have a couple drinks,dance....you'll start liking people more as time goes on...maybe even meet that "special someone"...you never know.Hey...why dont you take a friend that you DO like to go with you??

I have the same problem coming up this weekend. I don't want to go, but I have to (it's my father's wedding). I'm planning on bringing my new video iPod and when I'm bored and can't deal with the stomach-churning, mind-numbing, soul-deadening chitchat I plan on sneaking away and watching a video. After the break, I'll be able to deal with it again.

Explain to the Bride that you'd love to attend the ceremony, (and go), but then leave after that..., you dont HAVE to attend the reception.

You don't need to LIKE people to attend a social gathering with them. Simply be gracious to everyone, and quick to introduce yourself to all.
