I always spell god in all lowercase, so it doesn't bother me!

Sometimes I spell it backwards ;-)

Well, I do the same thing, and I wish I had received the same kind of hate mail. I envy you!

BTW, I think that to make a point, you should capitalise other words that grammar requires to be capitalised. I mean "I" and the first word in the sentence. Mind you, I'm not a grammar fundamentalist, I'm only saying that your point would be clearer (about why you spell "god" in small letters) if you did use capitals everywhere else, where it was required.

Resurectionist, my point was that correcting a person's spelling when it obviously doesn't prevent you from understanding their message is entirely pointless. It's as if I told you to come home, taking a particular way, and you took another one, so instead of accepting you home, I made you go back to the beginning, and come again home, taking the way I wanted you to take. Languages are paths, and "agnosticmom" just chose hers. It may not be "correct" never to use capitals, but you cannot possibly say you don't understand her. And in any case, it's not important how she arrived, but where she went.

God in the sense of the God of the Bible is a name and should be capitalized to be grammatically correct.

If you feel that by not capitalizing it you are in some way diminishing God, then you are sadly mistaken. God does not need your approval. Do what you will to His name. There are consequences... I prayer for your enlightenment.

I wonder if you'll call this hate mail....

you believe in god (oops, non capitalized) or not, this is your own problem and doesn't concern anyone... but to write the name of god(what's wrong with me today?still not capitalized...) NON capitalized... this concern only you too ;)

ps: is not that i am an atheist, i do believe in god, but not in the way that some stupid persons do... do you really think that writing god with a capitalized letter this might change something, or will make someone evil. commooon, get serious you people out there...

Nope. Silly waste of email if you get hate mail for that! I suppose people have too much time on their hands. Besides, if the people are upset because you do not capitalize god, and these people are Christian, you might want to bring up that god is not the name of the god in the bible. It is: Jehovah spelled as such or as Yhwh in its original form. (I capitalized it because THAT is a proper noun). :)

Its a sign of respect wether We believe in God or not. He is a person. We learn that you capitalize Names and God is a name wether we believe it or not. So that is why we capitalize his name. How would you like it if no one ever capitalized your name? or anyone in your families? pretty much the same thing.

God is a proper name and that's why it's capitalized. It has nothing to do with religion. If you turn in an essay with the name God in lower case letters, it is going to be taken as wrong.

If you don't capitalize 'god' then I assume you are referring to like Greek gods or something like that. If you capitalize 'God' then I know you are talking about the one that is referred to in the Biblical text. It's just a grammatical thing.

No, but it does bother me that you don't capitalize any words at all. The English language has rules for a reason.

Edit: Corrected, then, eduarodi. *Gasp* I corrected a mistake, what a concept. If I were a bastard, I'd have to tell you that you're a douche bag. But I'm not, right? Since I said I'm not. So, I don't have to tell you that you're a douche bag. Convenient.

As for you, agnosticmom, I suppose laws are only to be obeyed when the cops are watching you, too, right? Just admit that you're too lazy to move one of your pinky fingers half an inch. Worthless.

Your decision. Other people should not be so judgemental. I capitalize God, but I believe. I also capitalize Mom and Dad when referring to my parents. I do it out of respect, but that is my personal decision. You get to make your own. ;-)

I seem to be obsessive about spelling and correct grammar, but that's just me. I believe in God and feel He deserves to have His name and any reference to Him capitalized. If you don't believe in Him, then you probably don't feel the need.
