I wanna chill and unwind from travelling. I wanna see the best landscapes, feel the best peaceful evenings, have space to reflect on the previous 3 weeks. It needs to be less than 1/2 day travel from nearest airport - am flying back home from Bangkok. Am gonna get to Bangkok from the 'beach' airport. Thanks, serious answers preferred.

Ko Phi Phi is an over night train ride, not 1/2 days worth of traveling. But because you are traveling at night you will save yourself a 1/2 day. I think it was worth it. I had been traveling all the way from Beijing China over the course of 2 months, all the site seeing I could manage. I went straight from Seam Reap all the way down to Ko Phi Phi it took me over 30 hours of straight traveling but well worth it. I chilled on the beach for about 4 days and then I got bord! It was too relaxing, so I headed up to Chang Mai for a few days. By the time I hit Bangkok (to fly home) I had about 3 days left. Yea, I just drank my self away and went shopping. I have no clue what Bangkok looks like, I signed up for one tour but drank so much the night before I never made it. Kind of glad I didn't site see though, that way I have an excuse to go back. Only when we see things on TV in Bangkok, my husband will ask me if I went there... ha ah ahahaha

Three days is a bit of a short stay, but I highly recommend Koh Chang. Much quieter than the other islands, Some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, long empty beaches, and less than a half a day from the airport in Trat. The first beach, White Sand Beach, is a maze of development and bustling activity. But, as you go farther on down the island, the people disappear and the serenity takes over. Still one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Airfare from Bangkok to Trat is about $80 roundtrip.

have a good time.

Well, seems like Phuket will be the place for you. You can fly there from Bangkok, about an hour by air.

There you can either opt to stay at one of the beach resort/hotel, if you want space, head away from Patong Beach.

If this is not enough, get to one of the many island resorts, including Koh Phi Phi. There you will definitely have more privacy. You can go swimming inthe clear water or laze on the white beach.

If bored, take a boat and go island hopping. Krabi and Phang-nga is also a boat ride away and both offer privacy as well as privacy in a beach resort setting.

To get back, take a flight back to Bangkok.

The Kohs recommended are, of course, fantastic but a little touristy perhaps. I strongly recommend Hat Ton Sai which is located near East Rai Lai. This is the ultimate in chilled out destinations with stunning landscape (see link to picture below). There are no roads there (whcih means big resorts haven't developed) but there are some bars and good clean cheap accomodation. The huge limestone cliffs surrounding the area attract rock climbers so the beaches are usually near empty. To get there take a boat from the docks at Krabi - there's a few each day. It's less than half a day from both Krabi and (just) Phuket airport.

This recommendation comes with a satisfaction guarentee and I challenge any other answerers to this question to tell me they went there and did not love it.

To Phuket, of course; as it has one of the best beaches in South East Asia. It's my personal favourite too.. =) They have one of the most magnificent sceneries (don't miss out on the sunsets and sunrises, too), landscapes and not forgetting, their great local delicacies, too..

You can travel easily by air from the Phuket airport to the Bangkok airport. If you're ok with travelling on a budgeted airline, you can also try flying with Air Asia. They have frequent flights from Phuket airport to Bangkok airport. The earlier you book your flights from Air Asia, the cheaper rates you get. The travel duration by air from Phuket to Bangkok takes about an hour only.

Have a pleasant trip and travel safe! =)

Well in my opinion an example of a good beach can be found at koh Phi Phi. Have you ever seen the movie the Beach, because it was filmed there.
Although i travelled there along time ago, so it is likely to be very touristy now. Also i don't know how far from the airport it is.

Hua Hin is less crowded than Pattaya but still has everything you could want or need. Both about 2-3 hours by bus from Bangkok. Pattaya has a really nice small guest house type place called Tui's Place--right on the beach. Nice staff, too.

You need to head south to the Krabi region and sample some of the islands from there. Phi Phi was my personal favourite (but I'm going back a few years, before The Beach was filmed there). It may take a little longer than half a day but the transport infrastructure may have improved since I was there and it would be well worth the time taken - you wouldn't be disappointed - I promise! Have fun - I'm very envious!

Save money, spare time. Just take a taxi (50$)from Bangkok to the port of Ban Phe, near the town of Rayong. (173km) A short boat trip takes you then from here to Koh Samet.
http://travel.to/samet
Here is good beaches, (not full of tourists) hidden exotic beach bars etc.
A perfect place to relax and not unspoiled same many other places.
But Cambodia have some really nice beaches also in Sihanoukville. http://www.canbypublications.com/sihnoukville/ksbeaches.htm
train and bus from Vientiene go to here daily.
