I really don't believe it is the Popes job to punnish that person and if he could what can he do besides fire him? I never kept up with all that mess really so I don't know what became of it but it is the laws job to punnish, not the Popes. Look at it this way, say you are an employer and a person you have working for you steals a diamond ring, he gets busted just as the child abuser did. Now are you going to punish him even after he was busted by the police? Well you could fire him even after the police did what ever they did but if he was a good worker and was making a lot of money for you, if you fire him you will loose alot of money.
Now if you ask me, that person shouldn't be alowed to work or preach in a church. I wouldn't kick him out of the church and he could attend but teaching is out of the question until I was able to see that he has truly changed.
Something like that happen in the church I use to attend, only the person was stealling from the collection, backing it and using the intrest to gamble in Vagas; He was first talked to and put out of the church for a week. About 6 months later he was caught again doing it, this time he was put out of the church for 3 weeks and wasn't allowed to preach, but was alowed to attend. He ended up going out and starting his own church, great money in that bussiness but big penalty in the end if you use it in the wrong way. Have a Blessed Day, Matt.

Good question... I have 2 theories.

1. They did punish them behind closed doors. Then they forgave them. Of course they want to project the image of forgiveness so they don't let the public know how they were dealt with.

2. They ignore the whole thing and hope it goes away. They are the richest religion in the world and if they punished the abusers it would in effect be an "admission of guilt" and would therefor be opening themselves to a plethora of lawsuits.

Pope John Paul II initiated a strong invention and reporting of ALL abuse victims by members of the Church.

He banned priest from ministry who were guilty of abuse crimes.

He established lay review boards that consist with local Social Service professionals to review all allegations of abuse. These board members are not necessarily Catholic, so that independent review is obtained.

He established mandatory standards that require fingerprints All volunteers on Church ground or at events.

He reorganized, and established the originals norms for candidates to seminaries by stating emphatically that homosexuality is incompatible with the celibate priesthood.

But most importantly he apologized sincerely for those in ministry that failed the victims, the Church, and Jesus Christ.

This he accomplished before he died.

Because Jesus ordered us to forgive everyone.
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
The pope knows that even he has sinned.
And: would it help to punish him?
What do you think the result of the punishment would be for the sinner?

Because the Pope was and is protecting himself and the Catholic church, for fear of losing his jewels and all the money. But Christianity and Catholicism are two different things.

Because Catholicism is part of apostate Christianity (the biggest part of the "Harlot" of Revelation), and will soon be destroyed by the "Wild Beast" she rides (the UN). It'll be a great day.

Its not his job to punish them, he is just leaving their fates up to God... and if i was one of the child abusers I would be much more afraid of what is to come...
