A lot of people have had good success looking online for dates. It's a good way to check someone out that you might not normally meet. The important thing is to use a dating site that's reputable and to never give out any personal contact information until you're sure of the person.
I have 2 friends who have married the person they met online and neither of them are in the "desperate" category. They both wrote a few e-mails and then called the person they were interested in. If they got along on the phone, they'd arrange a date in a busy coffee place for the first meeting.

Okay theres nothing wrong with online dating as long as you're realistic. Mostly i get weirdos sending me messages. But there are some decent and somewhat shy guys out there.
I wouldn't go so far as to say i 'date' online but i do converse with people. I am on a personals site and have met some interesting people. But on the way i've found that some people are not what they seem and like to waste your time.
My advice is that you don't look for a prince charming on here. Maybe just a few good buds?
Then if a prince charming happens to come along fabulous. If not then you're not too horribly disappointed.

When I went out with someone online it wasn't out of desperation, I thought I found the one. It was an accident, one thing led to the other. At the same time guys were asking me out left and right. Why would I do a long distance online dating when guys I could be with were right here, so It was out of a so called love instead of desperation. It didn't work though. That's why I'm not doing it again. To painful

I think they are more hopeful than desperate. The thought of finding a possible mate for life thru open airways with no face to face contact is a great way to get to know a person without being judgemental. In my experience that those who dont have pics and wait about 4-6 mos b4 they ask you if you want to see one, usually there is a reason for it. separating who's legal,a pervert, or whether someone is insane or not is the hard part.

No you are not desperate for dating online, you are correct as long as you don't get involved with psycho's, be very careful.
I live in a small town and the choice of men is so slim, I had no other choice but to date online and I found the love of my life in Texas, he lives with me now and we think its a blessing that we met on the internet.

On-line dating seems to serve two major constituencies. First, many people use it to marry or otherwise find a monogamous relationship. Match.com claims to have lost 140,000 members, by enabling those people to find partners. Second, many people use Internet dating to find casual sex or serial partners. The article quotes a "Greg," who enjoys a first date with quickie sex at the end, and then offers the following remark: "I liked her, but not enough to merit fireworks. Given the seemingly endless selection, I get to be a little less forgiving."
