Why do people outside religion commit suicide? They obviously have a mental illness of some sorts. They don't want to live. They are depressed. Maybe they are on drugs (legal or illegal). They aren't getting the help they need. So they make an unwise decision. They give up.
Just because you believe in God doesn't always mean it's easy. In fact, life can be very hard for the faithful.
There was a man in Jamaica who had lost his mind. He could make a good enough living to support himself and his family. He had come to a point where was going to kill himself. He got up on a cliff, and tied his neck on a noose to a tree. Before he jumped he saw a banana near him and he grabbed it and ate it. When he was done he threw the peel to the side. As he was about to jump he noticed a man on the ground eating the peel. The fact that there was somebody else so starving that he would eat the peel snapped him back to sanity. He came down from the cliff and decided to live again. Because it can always be worse.
If you're referring to suicide bombers, it's because they've been taught lies about what it is to be a martyr. Jesus and the saints were martyred because they stood for the truth and somebody else killed them. They would rather die than give in to a lie. Suicide bombers think a martyr is someone who gives up his life for others, but does it in a way so that other people are killed. That is not matrydom. That is suicide, and violence. A true martyr is not seeking violence. He is seeking to stand up for a cause. It just so happens that sometimes evil individuals take it upon themselves to destroy the people and things that perhaps make them feel exposed.

There are many more reasons than I could possibly list here, but a few that come to mind are:
Unfortunately, having faith and believing in a higher power doesn't always make the pain go away. Some are looking for the "final fix" to make it all better and there really isn't much out there that does that; it doesn't matter which diety you believe in. There is always going to be pain. Some people have been so hurt by others (regardless of how much they themselves brought it upon themselves or not) that if the church fails them, it throws them right over the edge. They set such high expectations of "church" that they only set themselves up for more hurt and disappointment when the institution fails to be what THEY think it should be. Some (maybe a lot of people) just go to church to go through the motions and don't REALLY believe in most of what they profess to follow. They truly believe that they won't go to Heaven if they kill themselves "because God understands how much pain I am in". Some people are so beyond help, despite medication, therapy, etc. that they feel that it is the only way out for them. As a friend said to me before she killed herself:
"I live in Hell every day just trying to be normal; how much worse can it really be?"

Hey, why not ask this? Good question. Suicidal people are often so in despair that even their religion (if they have one) can't help them - or change their mind. Also not all religious people believe that suicidal is a sin or that they won't go to Heaven because of it.
The Bible says lots of things - and a lot of them are very unpleasant. It depends how you read it and I don't think that anything in it should be taken as literal truth. The Bible can be very obscure and hard to understand and I think that's the point of it - to get us thinking for ourselves, really thinking, how to live - not to lay down rules for how to live.

when people commit suicide for a cause they believe in, it is down to something i believe is called the werner effect: it's a cult thing and a totally unnatural phenomenon, completely goes against the survival instinct, the urge to pass on our genes. although i suppose freud would call it thanatos, something to do with an inate deathwish we arl carry, according to old siggy. he could be right, could be wrong.
i dont know about the koran, but i suspect you're right in saying the bible says you'll never get to heaven if you break my heart, sorry, if you commit suicide.
thing is chuk, the suicide bombers dont believe in the bible, they say they take their twisted logic from the koran, which i keep hear people saying is a peaceful scripture of a peaceful religion.
suicide bombers therefore are not true muslims, they are followers of a suicide cult which is trying to make a humanitarian point, allegedly, but using utterly non humane means to achieve their objective.
jaw jaw not war war. violence is the last resort of the incompetent.
peace.

People that commit suicide come from all walks of life. People that commit suicide or attempt to commit suicide aren't in a correct state of mind. Depression does crazy things to you. Been there done that. Sometimes people feel that they have no other choice but to end their own lives. I think that if a person who is religious but suffers from depression commits suicide and they aren't in their right mind, there might be an exception but I am not certain. Only god knows that for sure.

It's wrong to say people don't go to heaven if they commit suicide. Judas hanged himself and he wasn't condemmed. It's not a sin in the bible. It's a modern assumption by people who haven't read the bible.

Islamic women in the Middle East do it mainly because they have had a relative killed by the Israelis but also to escape the strictures imposed on them by a male dominated Arab society.

When you're contemplating suicide you're in pain, desperate and not thinking clearly. So much so that the bible and everyone(thing) else doesn't seem to help or matter.

Tell that to the Muslim hijackers. They killed themselves and other people just for that simple reason-to go to heaven and have 14 virgins each
