Is this really a serious question? If it is, and there is no mention of the fact that you were smoking pot in a fire dept. report or any other record then get this post off the internet immediately. If your insurance company finds out you were engaged in an illegal activity and as a result a fire started they will, and have every right to deny your claim. Otherwise, it all depends on your policy. Some policies exempt smoking related fires so even if you say it was a regular cigarette you can potentially be denied. If you can, I would consult an attorney before filing my claim, and for gods sake take down this post. You might not be as anonymous as you think. Insurance companies now typically do exhaustive internet searches as part of their claim adjustment process.

Yes, a foolish mistake, but yes. Most homeowners policies have coverage for the dwellings, contents/personal property, and loss of use. As long as the policy covers the peril of fire damage you should be fine. I would recommend being honest about what happened, b/c they can find out, and as long as you did not burn it down intentionally and you have fire coverage...you should be fine... The loss of use portion of your policy will cover putting you up in an apartment or hotel while your home is being rebuilt or repaired. Good luck, and you may want to do your "smoking" outside of the house.

If your house burned down apparently the flames spared your computer as you are on it now. Yes, insurance would cover some of it, but you have culpability. Check with your agent.

Depends, if you them it was a joint that made you sleepy and cause the damage the answer is NO. Call it just a cigarette and you were tired then the answer is Yes. Damage occuring during a crime by you is NOT covered, unless it was legal to smoke the dope.

It may not if they find out you negligantly caused the fire.

But if they do cover it, you have to pay your deductible first. Or else they'll slap you a check for the value of the house, minus the deductible.

Yeah, but I wouldn't tell them it was a joint, bro. Cigarette or cigar, no problem. If you're doing something illegal they won't pay. No sense giving them an excuse to deny the claim.

Yes.

Yes, it should. Fire is covered but I don't know if they will rule it out if they know it is a joint.

After you go to jail it shouldn't matter about your house.
