It's not much of a river, but the closest one to me is the San Diego River. The name isn't particularly exciting and it runs through Mission Valley.

I live on the Red River on the border between Texas and Oklahoma. The Corps of Engineers put a dam on the river just north of Denison Texas in the 1940's using some labor from German POWs (there was a POW camp outside of town). This dam made Lake Texoma which is fed by the Red and the Washita River to the north. The reason it is called the Red River is beacuse during the rainy season of the year the river turns red from all the clay in the water.

I don't live near any rivers right now (but we've got Lake Merritt, the Pacific Ocean & the San Francisco Bay).
When I lived up north in Humboldt County, I was pretty close to the Eel River. I also took a lot of daytime road trips to see the Klamath & Russian rivers, among others.
When I lived back east in Maryland, I wasn't too far from the Monocacy (sp.?), Potomac & the Shenandoah rivers.

I live in Charleston SC and we have the Wando, the Cooper and the Ashley rivers that run near my home. All three are Salt to a point so we catch everything from Redfish, flounder and sea trout to Lagremouth bass, crappie, catsih and bluegill. We get the best of both worlds and the beach and the Atlantic is like a 20 min drive from my house.
