If that happened, the United States would lose a core belief based on its historical and current identity - that being the freedom to practice your religion of choice without the interference of the government.
Even if such an amendement was written to allow all other religions, Christianity would now be government sponsored. As the official religion, I would be it could be argued that it could receive tax dollars. As the official religion, every government office could be forced to put up Christian messages.
I am a Catholic Christian, but I would not what my religion, or anyone else's, to be supported by the US government and thrown into the faces of everyone around me whether they like it or not. Not only that, you would have to deal with the fact that "Christianity" is a blanket term for many denominations, each with its stregths, weaknesses, ideas, and theologies.
It would be an absolute mess. I would grieve for the my country as it would no longer be the land I was raised to believe in.

The first logical argument would be that since, it would require a two thirds majority in the congress, etc. for it to even happen. Not a likely scenario.
Then there is the ensuing revolt if it were to happen. That would likely lead to a civil war.
IF, one ignores or dismisses both of the above there are the following arguments:
1) The denominations would not agree on nearly everything.
2) Fighting over doctrine between sects.
3) The number of disinters would far out number the supporters. It sounds all well and good to the christofacists, but in practice there would be so many problems that the country would quickly fall into battling factions that there would no longer be a country!
Take the above and then the others and combine them to come up with your pros and cons.

Well, if the constitution was amended and Christianity became the official religion, I suppose that all other places of worship would close.
Half of my family is Jewish, and would need to either practice their religion in private or leave the country. Some of my good friends who are Muslim would need to do the same.
There would be prayer in schools, but only a certain kind of prayer, and participation in the state sponsored religion would likely be mandatory.
That would be sad. Then the Native Americans would not be able to practice their religion, nor would anyone else except for the Biblical Christians. Our society would lose an important part of its depth and diversity.

a lot of people here don't understand how to debate hypothetically.
i'm sure you'll get some who say "that won't happen"
i think it would be a bad thing. we have religious freedom in this country. all of us, not just christians. if prayer were mandetory in public schools, a lot of others would then be forced to participate, jews, muslims, hindus, rastafarians and so on. this country is made of immigrants from all walks of life, some who escaped communist countries for this reason. i am totally against it so i really can't think of any pro's...

America would instantly fall behind 10 other countries in fields of science and mathematics...
The government would most certainly impose new standards of education in the schools to degrade science, and just teach god...
There would be no abortion. There would be more wars...
There would be revolts, there would be chaos... I for one wouldn't stand for it...
Without producing any scientists, our country would seriously fall behind japan, china, and India. Our country would be turned into a pathetic, whimpering, fearful country without any power. Everything we would once have been would be gone. Without science to drive the economy, the current China, and the current U.S. would switch places...
Remember, this is a technological world... Without proper biology teaching, our healthcare system could suffer...

Which form of Biblical Christianity? Baptist? Methodist? Pentacostal??
As nice as it might sound, there would still be trouble over which version of Biblical Christianity was best

Doesn't affect me at all. First of all, I'm Canadian, so anything American doesn't concern me. Second, I'm not religious, so if the official religion was changed, that wouldn't affect me either.
