You are thinking of getting into an awesome field!

College: Biology or some other science type classes.

Or, you can go into the service and get training for a dental career there.

You can always call up a dental office and see if you can observe and see if that is what you would like to do. I LOVED watching Root Canals, extractions, and all the other cool things when I had to do observation prior to going into dental hygiene school. I observed at a perio office and got to watch implants get put in. It was AWESOME. loved it. If I would have known, when I was 18-20 years old, that I would love dentistry so much I would have gone to dental school. I am in my early 30's and graduated from dental hygiene school. I still love it!!!!

did it as my career project

recommended to get a bachelors degree first, emphais in anatomy, biology, sciences

then you go to a 3-4 dental school to get a dental degree; either a DDS or an equivalent degree

if you want to become a specialist eg orthodontist, periodontist etcetera its another 1 or 2 years of specialized training

Go to http://www.ada.org and start prowling around. If you search on "career" there, you will get over 400 hits.
