Hi, I'm from the Mt. Pleasant, Michigan area. I'm wanting to buy an English Bulldog puppy sometime in the fairly near future. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good breeder that I can get one from somewhat reasonably. I've seen puppies in the $2,000+ range...I'd like to be well under that if possible. It's just going to be a loved pet, so it doesn't need to be show quality, as I have no desire to show or breed it. Whatever help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Becasue this breed many times has to be bred by artificial insemination and the pups delivered by c-section they are expensive dogs. Just to get a litter on the ground is an expensive process for the breeder. So they charge a bundle for the pups.
They also have some health issues so be sure your pup comes from someone who has taken the proper measures to ensure healthly pups.
They arenot a cheap dog and they are very popular now so that raises the price also.
You could try rescue and see what they have available. Many times great dogs are in rescue and need good homes.

$800 for Stud fee, collection fee will be extra
$500 - $700 for Semen containers, shipping, AIs
$400 - $600 to have hips, eyes, hearing tests
$300 for prewhelping care of the *****
$1000 for a c-section
This does not take into account any puppy care or possible emergencies. And all this to have maybe 2-3 puppies.
How much do YOU think they should be sold for? They are expensive to breed and expensive to buy. They can also be expensive to maintain, as they tend to have health problems.
I would be VERY wary of any puppy selling for much under $2000. If you find a 'cheap' one, it is likely you are looking at a future of heartache and big Vet bills. Cheap can get awfully expensive.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as an "affordable" bulldog. If you find one, then you can bet that it is sick or has some other major problem. Choose another breed, like a Boxer, or save up for a good bulldog and the medical care it will likely need. They are a high-maintenance dog.

Since bulldogs are usually the result of AI and C-section, a pet quality puppy is going to be expensive.

No such thing as a cheap English Bulldog pup because they must all be delivered by c-section, so that cost is factored into their price. But you can go to www.akc.org, click on 'breeds' then 'breed rescue' and find yongsters & adults that need to be placed in new homes, for nominal fees (for care while in rescue). Good luck!

Bulldog puppies...are expensive.
Perhaps you could look at your local humane society or bulldog rescues in your area.
Best wishes!

if you got an english bulldog for free it would still cost a lot. they are a breed with a lot of health problems and have short limbs. get a boxer! they are not agressive to people who arent gonna hurt you or its family. great with children, her please look at this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxer_Dogs
