There really is not a set amount. Some people do not need financial help but use the combined money for a memorial or something like that for the deceased. If there is a financial need, I would give what I could afford and then maybe a little later give additional help such as meals, or groceries, etc.

Personally I feel whatever you can afford they should be happy to take. You should consider if it is a close friend or just a neighbor. It may sound a little old fashion but you could always offer them support for the aftermath like bring them meals or take their children out for some activities or something special since childres often have a hard time understanding. If it was a close friend I would give as much time to them as possible and try to see if I could afford $200.00. If it was a neighbor I would consider some warm meals and $50.00.

The amount I consider is anywhere between $25 to $50 for neighbors or co-workers to $100 ranging up to what you feel you can afford to family members and close friends.

No set amount, what you feel you want to give.

Close family member? Survivors not too well off? Give till it hurts. Survivors financially OK? Half of that.

Distant family member, not too close? Half of the above half.

Don't forget you're paying your respects...anything else is just a bonus.

It's what you'll walk away feeling OK with.

Depending on one's financial circumsances, I think
a "decent" amount would be $20-40, and also how
well you knew the people.

It depends on how close you are to them and what's your budget.

Friends-$20-50

Close relatives-$50-100/500
