We are Atheistic. We use the mythological character as a symbol of undefiled wisdom and human nature.
There are some "Theistic Satanists" That do see it as real. But they have nothing to do with the church of Satan and are generally not seen as "real" Satanists.

The Nine Satanic Statements

from The Satanic Bible, ©1969

by Anton Szandor LaVey

[français]

1. Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence!

2. Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams!

3. Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit!

4. Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it instead of love wasted on ingrates!

5. Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek!

6. Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires!

7. Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all-fours, who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all!

8. Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification!

9. Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as He has kept it in business all these years!

They do not actually believe in Satan as a personal being. They are just worshiping themselves basically. I would not look to deep into it there is nothing there but some fluff from the 60s.

They actually don't believe in satan at all.

They just pretend to to make fun of christians.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Funny thing you ask because the truth is anyone who is not a beliver in jesus christ serves Satan . He is the opposite and God said you either serve me or the devil so if your not a believer in jesus you serve the devil so the word is full of satanists whether they admit it or not!!!!!! The people who actually say they serve him 9 times out of ten have no idea what they are really doing the devil just uses them to make people think that their crazy and that he doesn't exist.

My understanding (limited) of it is that they believe that Satan is actually the Good Guy, and that God is really the Bad Guy who, by being cunning, tricked the world into thinking the opposite.

So they don't see themselves as worshipping evil at all. They think that christians worship evil.

Essentially take everything you know about christianity and flip it on its head.

strange stuff if you ask me. (christianity and satanism)

Strictly just a symbol. The Church of Satan is actually an atheistic/humanistic 'faith' that celebrates man as he is instead of as some false god would allegedly want him to be. The basic idea of morality is to be good to people as best you can, but if they wrong you, crush them.

Only theistic Satanists (traditional satanists) do that. It's rare.

That'd be the ultimate irony, wouldn't it?

" Um ... are we doing this right? I'm not feeling anything or getting any answers. " Pause. " Ah ... wait a minute, let's drag out the King James. "

LOL : - )

I believe that is why they are called satinists?
They believe if they can get as many people to hate God the better. So they come up with all kinds of other religions to cater to the people who don't want to live right. Or they come up with thier idea of who God really is.
