My golden retriever got loose from our gate and we looked everywhere for her and couldn't find her so we posted her picture all over town. and i got a woman to call me and tell me she seen a lady put my dog in her car so she took down her license number for me and gave me the number and I called the police to let them on what's going on. Later I got her phone number from some sources and called her she told me she took my puppy to get her out of harms way ( cause she was picked up on the highway) so I thought that she had taken her to an animal shelter or somewhere safe like that come to find out she lives in cincinnati and she picked my puppy up 2 blocks away from my house in portsmouth she said she dropped zoey off at a gas station along the way and she stuttered when I told her I already called the police and she hung up on me and I don't know her name or where she lives or what happened to my 5 month old golden retriever

Tell him that there are "bad guys" in the world. (If you're a military family, this will really work, because this is what I tell my 3 and 5 year old when my husband is deployed). Tell him that the badguys kidnapped your puppy, but the good guys (the poliece) are going to kick their butts and do everything they can to bring the pup home safely. (In my case Daddy has gone to kick the bad guys butts, my girls response... "Like Superman?"). You can give him a gentle but hopeful lesson in reality, and also throw in a little respect and awe for the cops.. Make them out to be superheros. Because odds are, as much as you appear to care, you will see your pup again.

Do you have the number of the woman who gave you the license plate number? If you have the thief's license plate number AND phone number then you need to contact the police. They'll be able to get her address. Tell your 5 year old the truth.

Dont give up yet. Try to find her. It's a crime to take someones dog, so call the police untill they do what you want them to! Also, you should have had a microchip or collar on your puppy! Good luck! if worst comes to worst...make up a story or buy an identicall puppy.
