I'm talking taking care of a kid fulltime while the parents are working. I am having a baby and was thinking of doing that a few months after the baby is born for some extra cash. What are the downfalls and how much do you charge?

Downfalls are MAKE SURE YOU ARE PAID A WEEK IN ADVANCE for babysitting! ALOT of people tend to babysitter hop- they use u for a week and then u never see them again- and NO MONEY for you! Make them pay in advance NO MATTER how nice they seem! Be sure to make permanent hours cuz some WILL take advantage of you and kindness and you will end up with kids all day and night and weekends! Make your hours and stick with them! SIGN A CONTRACT! It can make a good living but also can be stressful at times too! Kids r alot of responsibility! DONT let parents take you for granted! congradulation ON THE BABY! i WOULD SAY CHARGE atleast $60 a week per child and if u are in like a big city charge $75 a week. Day cares cost a fortune so $75 a week is damn cheap!

I think that right after the baby, that will be too much for you to handle. After about 4-6 months, I would see about getting a daycare license and opening up a daycare inside my home. This way you can be insured and stuff in case anything ever happened to one of the children in your care. We had an incident lately in our news where the woman was taking care of 3 children under the age of 5 and one died due to carelessness...she left the baby in the car seat and the baby was strangled to death. Very scary, but it is a sad reality. So while you are pregnant and waiting, look into opening a daycare and getting insurance...good luck!

I'de charge $8-10 an hour. There aren't really any downfalls unless you don't get along with the family. It would be good because you could have your baby with you.

Charge deffinatly depends. Usually 12-15 an hour, also, when looking after a child and a baby-it can be difficult, especially since the baby is yours and the child isnt. Becareful-its alot to take on.

my aunt does that...she runs a daycare out of her home...i think she gets about a $100 - $120 (or so)/week per kid...you don't necessarily have to charge by the day, you can charge by the week or whatever works for you and the parent...but i do suggest waiting just a little bit after you have the baby, just so you can adjust to being at home and the baby's sleep/eating schedule...once you've sort of got a pattern or schedule down, then you're good to go...good luck!!

Here in BC, Canada, the minimum wage is $8 per hour. Childcare goes from $5-$9 per hour or evenmore....make sure you have a written agreement of what is expected and what is extra...
