I believe that a dogs tongue is cleaner than ours and often cleaner then what wounded them. They lick the area to clean it, just like we wash our wounds with soap and water.
I have a friend who has her dog lick her cuts because she believes this myth. I say if nothing else is around and you hurt yourself, it is better then nothing. However if soap and water are around, use that first. A dogs tongue can cause you to get an infection.
