I am still working on a design for a new kitchen. The salesperson who is putting the design together for me has the oven (raised) and refridgerator next to each other. She assured me that they could be close together but I am not sure. Help!!!!

In the design I like the oven and fridge next to each other. People have been telling me though it is not good to have a hot oven next to the fridge for technical reasons. Supoosedly the oven will ruin the fridge.

It's your kitchen, just tell her where you want it. It is common to have them side by side though

It is not ideal. Kitchen design is an exercise in compromise. Everyone I deal with wishes they had just a little bigger space to work in. Kitchens come in all shapes and sizes, as do the families that use them. You should place the Refrigerator and Oven beside each other, only when you are sure that this is the layout that best suits you. Discuss this with your designer. Make sure that you have clearly conveyed what you want the new layout to accomplish. Explain that you are not comfortable with this layout. Ask for a layout with them separate and ask for a run down of the pros and cons of each version.

There is not a safety reason to prevent the side by side location.
Proponents of Feng-shui design would counsel against it. Fire and Ice in that close proximity would create an imbalance in the room.
Another idea would be to put the fridge next to the sink, close to plumbing for automatic ice machine and drain.

The ideal kitchen has the major appliances in a triangle shape with only about 3' or less to a counter to set things on. The refrigerator, the stove and the sink should be in a sort of triangle with counter space between them but not too many steps apart to minimize walking and carrying stuff between them all.
Having the refrigerator and oven side by side isn't real ideal in my opinion. You need space for each of the appliances to sit your cooking stuff on the counter.

Generally there is some sort of small counter/divider between them but in our seasonal trailer, they are side by side. With new, properly insulated appliances, this shouldn't be an issue.
It is your kitchen. And if you aren't comfortable with the design, then it should be changed. Do it the way you want it now - it is easier to change the plans now than redo the kitchen again later.

I personally wouldn't want my refridgerator and oven next to each other.
For ideas, have you tried Home and Garden TV (www.hgtv.com)? There might be some good ideas there. I tried to go there, but it was very slow. Otherwise, I would have done some research for you.

It is your kitchen! Get it like you want it. Find out what brand and model she wants to use then go to Lowe's and Home Depot and ask people there or call a good repairman and ask him.

Personally, I think its fine to have them close but aesthetically speaking, I would seperate them with a narrow cabinet to hold spices.
