I'm 6'2" and ride a 5'7" short board most of the time in conditions up to double overhead. I also have a 6'2" board that I ride sometimes. I think it just comes down to what your normal conditions are. Longer is a bit more stable on bigger waves.

There is no correct dimension. Your board size depends on what your ability is, and what kind of surfing you want to do. The longer boards are for traditional surfing because they are very stable, while short boards are quicker and more manuverable so you can do more turns and tricks.
