Christianity believes your salvation is through accepting Jesus as your God and Saviour.
(1) If this is true and you have not accepted Jesus as God and Saviour then you will be damned for eternity. So quite severe to put it mildly.
(2) What is the consequence of believing and accepting Jesus in yr religion/non-religion if it turned out not to be true? Does this consequence outweigh (1)?

If I had to answer this question myself, I would have to understand all the other religions before I have the answer. Can someone from the other religious groups answer?

Yes, the consequence of believing in the divinity of Jesus, if that belief was false, could be detrimental, according to other belief systems. For instance, believing solely in Jesus as savior without believing that Mohammed is Allah's prophet will buy you a ticket straight to hell, according to Islam.
So, on one hand, you have Christianity that argues that if you don't accept Jesus as your one and only savior then you'll go to hell. Then you have Islam on the other hand arguing that if you don't accept that Mohammed is Allah's prophet you'll go to hell. So, which one do you accept, if they are both mutually exclusive?

We have discussed it.
Here I will summarize. The God -as you describe him - has the ethics of Himmler and is undeserving of any sort of worship. For instance, he would condemn good, honest people of other faiths to eternal damnation. There are a myriad of other things as well just search Answers for God, Hypocrisy, Religion, etc. and you'll find them
The consequence is I am proliferating the ignorance in the world, lying to myself and contributing to a doctrine that preaches intolerance and bigotry. The fact is that a world view that does not allow for the beliefs of others will detract from ever obtaining a peaceful world. Religion is part of the problem, not part of the solution. If religion maintains its prominent place in the world we will likely end up wiping out the human race. Religion divides us - the question unites us.
So yes this completely outweighs number 1. If number 1 is true (that made me a laugh a little) I do not look forward to spitting in the face of an all-powerful deity but I will do it and I will do it with a clear conscience.
The real questions is, how do you live with yourself and accept all the hypocrisy in your religion? How do you accept all the horrible things that the church has done in the name of what you believe? Do you really want to obey a religion that would condemn kind, generous, honest people to hell? What kind of morality is that?

let me give you an example. if you are a serial killer and rapist and after hundreds of lives that you have devastated and was caught and sentence to death. at the time before death and a pastor comes to you for your last prayer and you say........saved me god...........i believed in you
1) does it mean you do not have to die
2) if you goes to heaven and some of those happens to be killed by you and ended up in heaven too....so what is the different.
shall we then start become robbers rapist and killers after all god is no longer preaching people to do good. it is now giving a condition that if you do bad, come and believed me, then why should we be good.
This doctrine has been thrown out for a long time and many people in the western community whom have given up christianity is because of one of this reason.
The actual thinking should be :by believing in him is a start of being saved. You will still needs to pay for the sins of the crimes that you have made be it this life or the next
No there are no such thing as not accepting jesus will dammed us to eternity too. If you are calm enough in your mind, you would be able to see the ghost around you to tell you that it is not true. the angels whom you see at churches and temples. (but somehow never seen one in mosque) You would be able to travel to heaven and hell and under the sea.
it is fun but remember it takes years to reach this

There's no consequence in believeing jesus if you're not christian. I just don't believe a good person who lives a good live but doesn't accept jesus goes to hell, while the child molesters, rapists, and murders who in prison believe in jesus goes to heaven. So I see it as a way for bad people to still go the heaven. So why live a good life then?

If 1 is true, I don't want anything to do with that (idea of) God, no matter what the consequences.

You've been reading Pascal... Unfortunately, Pascal set up a false dichotomy, and the question you pose has been intellectually dead for years. Nice try, though: always good to see a classic return.

Why do you care what others do? What is the consequence to you in leaving everyone alone to do what makes sense to them?
