I just had a baby seven weeks ago and after four weeks of bleeding from that, I had an IUD put in two weeks ago and have had light but constant bleeding ever since. It's not very "period like" because it's lasted longer and is very light and I'm still breastfeeding. I know some bleeding is normal with an IUD but come on this is ridiculous. Could there be a problem with the IUD or is this normal?

I got an IUD after I had my little boy three years ago. People would tell me that bleeding right after you get it is normal, but I was like you and I bled for two months. Then, after that, I started getting cramps that were short, sharp, right were the IUD was and would bring me to my knees. That's when I had mine removed. My doctor then informed me that IUD's don't always work for every woman, and that I could have been having a reaction from the copper. I'm not saying you need to get it removed, but if you start getting cramps, definately consider it. I'm on the pill now and can say it is truly pain free.

It is common, I have an IUD had it for 3 months no bleeding cramps nothing it was great, then I started bleeding, cramping, felt tired, just not myself, went to my Dr. he said everything is fine & they are side effects of which you can experience for up to the first year, it lasted about 1 month and it stopeed. I tried the pill....got pregnant 2 times and yes I took it faithfully the same time everyday! Had the shot, ok got so sick I was hospitalized, the patch the same thing. The IUD has its pros & cons like all forms of birth control, for me it is less hassle to deal with the side effects of an IUD and the ease on my mind of not getting pregnant definitly is a plus!
