This is a very difficult issue to understand, unless you've been there before.
I did for many years! As an adult, I still fight the urge from time to time.
If you already quit, you shouldn't give in again. It's an addiction and you may have to fight off the urges for a long time. Just be strong and don't give in!
Best of luck to you!☺

Sweetie, my daughter used to cut when she was having some problems about a year ago. It's a very emotional release. So obviously you are having an issue in your life currently that is making you want to be self destructive or hurt yourself. You are right cutting generally isn't about suicide it's about pain. Do yourself the biggest favor and call a hotline, find out what the real problem is as hard as it may be I bet you already know & just don't know how or are afraid to confront it. It wont be easy but it will be freeing. You will be a healthier person for it in the long run. Fear is our worst enemy, doubt comes next. Know that you are worth being treated with respect and that it starts with you. I'm justjodechi on yahoo if you need to talk anytime. Be strong, believe in you! Here's a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt that I love "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission" Just think about that for a few minutes and then start giving yourself the respect you deserve.

There are MANY things in someone's life that can make them want to do anything to make the pain go away. But, cutting yourself isn't the answer (and I'm sure you've heard that one before). You need to work through your feelings and your situation and learn to deal with the hard things in a productive manner. If you can't talk to anyone at home, ask your parents to go to a counselor, so you can talk there. The point is, you need to get your hurt and pain out, deal with it, and move on. Cutting should not be an option - don't hurt yourself.

I have. Started during my junior year of high school (I'm now a sophomore in college). I haven't done it in several weeks.
Cutting is both destructive and addictive. It's not a good way to deal with things, but it provides a temporary release. That temporary release is addictive; I haven't found anything that works as well. But, clearly, injuring yourself i harmful to your body, and isn't a good thing to do.
Don't start cutting again. It won't solve anything, and once you start, it's really hard to stop. Try putting a rubber band or hair tie around your wrist, and snap it against your skin when you want to cut. It hurts, and provides some of the same release that cutting does, but doesn't really harm your body very much.

It is a sensitive subject, but a serious one. I use to cut for years. And i had to deal with the consequences. The reason behind cutting is serious. You need to talk to someone, deal with what is making you want to cut.
Cutting is only a way to hide some kind of pain that is too unbearable to deal with. people cut to cover the inside pain with an outside pain.

For as long as I can remember I have been a cutter. I never do it to kill myself either. When I cut myself, I can turn mental pain into physical pain and I can better deal with that. For me it's always been a release, I actually feel better if I do it. I haven't done it in about a year now. It's definetly not healthy behavior, but I completly understand where you are coming from.

I wrote on myself once. i wrote on myself untill o bled. I then ran alcohol over it and it was weird but the pain i felt was good. But that was when I was depressed and mad. I still have the scar ( It's small now though, I'm trying to get rid of it). It was a name I wrote on me. I wrote it on my leg. I used a regular pen too. the ink wasnt coming out so i just wrote over and over on the same spot. it was like when you write really hard on a piece of paper over and over well thats what happened to my skin. I was super depressed. I still get a bit depressed now but not to the point where i hurt myself, well maybe i do i punch the walls and kick the walls and furniture around me. I only do these things when i get depressed and when I'm alone. when I am with someone else i just sit and daydream.(only when I'm down i do this)
don't do it any more find something else that you could do to release what ever it is you have. ok LOVE

The pain you are experiencing must be very intense. You do it because the physical pain hides the mental. But it will not hide it forever. You must deal with your problems headon. Get some friends to talk to...good friends. Talk to a counselor or psychologist. You are not crazy or weird or beneath us. We all have our own problems and no one is perfect. There is more than one way to deal with problems. Thank god, cutting isnt the only way.
