Do you think a Militia could be created that involves all races, sexes and religions as long as you are an american citizen? A militia where all of its members are your next door neihbors, friends and family with the commonality that we all pay taxes, work and protect our families let alone our civil rights. One that can educate children on safety, drug resistance. Train people so if there is a problem in the community people you know and trust will be helping each other. Is this still possible or is all hope gone that we can stick together to protect what should be ours forever, Rights??

Too late - the U.S. Armed Forces already fit all these qualities except the one about being called a "militia". Those who don't want to join full time can join the guard/reserve. Those who feel they cannot bear arms, well they can do their part other ways. It's all good.

My concern with the militia movement is how easy it would be for it to get subverted into a right wing army.

If it was set up as you decribe it, that would be good. All races, both sexes, different religions. That's a snapshot of America. But when I lived in Florida I met some home grown militia men, and they were not about any of that. They were basically planning for racial holy war, and they really meant no good to anyone except bigoted whites.

This is a serious danger everywhere in the country. Guys who are majorly into guns don't usually do the diversity thing. They seem to have another kind of agenda.

I think you could. Look at the minutemen. I think that there are a lot of hateful and very disagreeable people out there, but there are still more of us that would be willing to pitch in. The reason it may not seem like it is because the disagreeable idiots scream alot louder than the normal people.

it is my opinion that the national guard should quit playing soldier and be assigned the task of civil service, such as fighting fires, helping flood victims, and other civilian type service. I can not believe they train enough to be a real soldier. I believe they cause more harm than good to our soldiers becasue of poor training. What you asked would be handled best by the national guard (a state militia) and then the combat soldiers could concentrate on what they are best prepared for

I think a civil defense program should be developed that includes more of the population.

At the rate things are going, I'd be (pleasantly) suprised if you can get such a group together for dinner without an argument erupting.
