Some people think that the public school system is at a lower grade than a private school. The rules are said to be lax and there is a higher tendency for gangs to evolve. I just happened to have attended a private school for 11 years. In this school, the principle only had to walk down the study hall aisle without saying one word and by the time he got to the front it was so quiet you could hear a gnat sneeze.
Then, my family had to move and I had to attend a public school and I thought I had walked into a zoo. The students were unruly, the principle had to scream at them to make them be quiet at the gym. I hid in the library until I graduated.
But that is just my experience. There may be other public schools which are better than this one however. It is the location that counts. We had moved to the country.

I don't consider it child abuse but I wouldn't do it. My husband was "home schooled" they basically just kept him home, which I know is not the normal course of action for people who home school, but when I was younger all the home schooled kids I knew were strange and really a lot more naive than me, albeit I had an unusual amount of adult activity as a child so I lost the innocence that these other kids had but I still thought they were odd. When I was 13 I went to someones house and all the kids were home-schooled and they still could only watch G rated movies and we were the same age...it was so very weird to me. But I'm not saying that there is anything really fundamentally wrong with it...it's just I always saw them as odd...and I always think if you shelter a child forever when they turn 18 and go to college they might end up being those girls on girls gone wild or something...But for those who do it well and socialize their children in sports and stuff like that it can be a huge benefit considering some public schools nowadays.

They are worried that the student will not be exposed to other children and other members of society. Home schooling is great if the child is exposed to others. The best thing is to put the child in clubs and sports in which they can interact with the other kids. You can't protect the child forever , esp if you want the child to grow into a productive member of society.

I'm positive that it's not child abuse. Some people migh say that, because children in a public school setting will be exposed to the real world out there and can learn how to get along with all different cultures and temparaments. It builds them up if they don't succumb to the pressure.

Because most of a child's growing up years is in school. They meet friends and interact and learn more from their friends.
Wouldn't call it child abuse to teach at home though. Some children have difficulties at school like bullying and so require home teaching.

Because they do not know the difference betwwen homeschooling and no schooling. They think that if you don't sent a child to school you are not giving them a quality education and denying them access to social peers. This is so far from the truth but it is a choice that they wouldn't make for themselves, therefore it is wrong.
They don't know that the child will be educated according to state standards and that there are study and social groups for homeschool kids to meet.
I did not choose to himeschool either but at least I can accept it as a wonderful choice for other families.

I believe that some people think you are not allowing them to be part of society, or in-least in a controlled society. I however, think that for some children, homeschooling is the better choice than public schools, and vice versa.

I would never send my child to a public school. We toured one once while looking at different schools and the kindergarteners where walking down the hall chanting "No guns in school!" After that, I made up my mind!

Because quite a lot of people have this overwhelming desire to trivialise words like "child abuse". So you see it on these pages all the time.

Because its the first place you learn to make friends and interact with a variety of different people. Why would you want to prevent your kids from having these experiences?
