Just use good ground beef... shape into patties using minimum handling, then salt and pepper them... add some wood chips to your coals and grill as you usually would... try hickory, mesquite, apple or cherry... hickory is the best... above all, DON'T WORK THE MEAT EXCESSIVELY WHEN MAKING THE PATTIES... MAKES THE BURGERS TOUGH...
Any other condiments for flavoring can be added AFTER the burgers are grilled... use your imagination here, but start with a GOOD grilled burger...

Best way to spice up hamburgers is to mix stuff in with the meat...steak sauce, spices, etc.
Also, make the patties extremely thin...then put a slice of cheese between two of the patties (seal the edges) and cook 'em that way.

Garlic salt, Cavenders, pepper, and onion powder. Put a little dab of Dales seasoning on it before adding the others.
You can also roll the hamburger out and add cheese and whatever else you want in it. Fold it over and cut out patties. Good way to make pizza burgers.
Forgot to add that it needs to be on wax paper so it wont stick and you can fold it over.

My friend pats out two thin patties. Then he puts a glob of PEANUT BUTTER in the middle of one. Put the other one on top and seal the edges. It's really different.
