No, there will always be a generation gap.

When you are young, you think you know everything because you haven't been exposed to the myriad of experiences that an older person has lived through. You think that knowledge and wisdom are finite.

When you are old, you fear that although the younger generation has more technological knowledge, he is lacking in real world experience and may not ever gain the required wisdom to effectively apply his knowledge.

Generation gaps will always be around. They don't have anything to do with a specific person or their age. There are constant deliveries at hospitals so you would think no gap would occur. Everyone should just blend together if it was only about age. The generational gap has more to with groups of people who experienced a common era in history. These eras probably break down between large geo-political events or large cultural changes. Examples would be: World Wars, Industrial Revolution, Introduction of the internet, Natural Disasters of immense scale. What people forget is that age is just a number. You are as old as you feel. If you want to mess people up, be a multi-generation person. It freaks them out.

The generation gap cannot be removed. Reason being that people from different generations have different life experiences in common with people their own ages.

That doesn't mean that one can't have an open, honest and close relationship with someone of a different age. It just means that some experiences are going to be interpreted differently because of the generational difference.

For example, I am 41. One of my best friends is 25. We get along great...but she sometimes doesn't get the references I make because she doesn't have the same memories I do of our culture. Conversely, there are things I can't relate to her on, because at 41 I am at a different stage in my life than she is, therefore the priorities that we have are different. For example-at my age, I am starting to think about what age I'll be able to retire. At her age, she is still in the career building stage. I am able to give her advice based on my experiences, but we aren't going through the experiences at the same time, like those of my generation.

When does the generation Gap Start. I am 14 years older than my niece and I associate with her and her friends on their level almost like we are on the same level. I have my stuff together a well paying job etc.

But I'm into the music she listens to. The clothing. Videogames etc.

I think it CAN. I made it a point that when I would have kids, they would be able to come to me and talk to me about ANYTHING. I have two grown boys, and sometimes they give me a little more information than I really need to know, but at least I know they feel comfortable coming to talk to me. I never could do that with my mom, and I still can't, and she's 70.

It stands to reason that when you have generations, you will have gaps. It's the nature of the beast in all of us!
