Access courses are the equivalent to A-levels. what with the differences being these are for students who are 19 and over and who do not possess the formal qualifications which are like GCSEs and of which these are needed for studying A-level subjects. back then, you had to be 21 and over to take up an access course, but 3 years ago, this was relaxed and thus, from the age of 19, anyone could do it. they generally last for a year and students obtain credits by completing tasks such as writing essays, doing practical work to even key skills such as IT, numeracy, how to write a bibliopgraphy etc. in order to pass the course they have to get at least 16 level 3 credits. level 3 is the equivalent to an A-B grade.

the one big difference between A-levels and access courses is that with A-levels you study a range of subjects which you would select, whereas with an Access course, it specialises in one particular area, say for instance art and design, media studies, business and health and social care, depending on your career aims. you don't need any previous qualifications, but of course this is still very handy if you do. just an enthusiasm and a determination to study and work hard and to do your very best. but best enough for you to end up completing the course that is.

i once did an access course in media and communications studies 4 years ago when i was 21 and though it was hard work,
i enjoyed it immensely. suffice to say, i would fully reccomend it to anyone who can't proceed towards a-levels and is eager to go to university, as an access course is the first step to that opportunity. if you do decide to do an Access course, then may i wish you the very best of luck!

I take it you have been away from education and training for number of years if so. An access course for a mature student is a must. It will hone your basic skills like Maths and English and build up the confidence required when returning as a mature student to education and study. It will as lo provide you with study and revision skills.

I could go on for hours but I won't but yes! it is worth it. provided you are willing to give it your best shot... Go for it.

Will open up many more options for you.

Access courses are run to get you back into the flow of returning to studying. The course itself is very interesting, and can help you decide if you want to go further with your education.

They are worth studying if you wish to go on and further your education.
They are designed to give you sufficient credits to allow you ACCESS to higher education (Uni).
If you do not intend to go to uni then maybe something that specifically meets your needs?
Your local library will have reference books on careers and qualifications - this should help.
Good luck.

Access is a fundemental database for very small applications. Works well for small businesses. Larger companies try to use them and will outgrow the use of the database. Better suited for larger companies would be a sequel database.

Whether it is worthing studying depends on how you expect to use Access. For small applications, it is great.

hey,
i did the access to nursing last year and found it good, it takes a lot of hard work especilly if you are old as you tend to have forgotten everything you learned at school.

Know what you want to do when you finish and don't take on too much. And keep your eye on the goal at the end to keep you motivated.
Yes, they're worth it.
