if so break it down for me, it sounds a lot more interesting than the standard christian religious fare

In Buddhism, there are higher beings commonly misunderstood as gods, Devas. However, Buddhism does not teach the notion of praying nor worship to the Devas or any god(s).
even christians some of them think that vergine meriam is a god
and some think that jesus is a god

I am eclectically Asatruan. I "worship" the pantheon of the Norse gods: Odin, Thor, Freya, Tyr, et al. There are many mysteries and secret wisdom that comes out of Pagan belief.

There are dozens, indeed probably hundreds, of gods worshipped in India. Some yogis even sit in front of a mirror and worship their own image...confusing. I'm no genius but I know I'm certainly not a god.

Some do. Perhaps they are the enlightened ones. It seems plausable to believe in a god for Love another for War etc.. but one God that does it all always seems to be lacking in some areas.

Yes, Hindus worship a lot of Gods / Godesses and they also believe that God is one but has a lot of AVATARS.

Wiccan worship the god and goddess. For different things we change there names, but they are all the same god and goddess.
Ancient religions had many gods for many things ex: rainbows, thunder, death, proctection.........
