Look in his ear if it is all nasty looking inside like brown crusty stuff and red it is probably an ear infection and will require a trip to the vet. If it doesn't look like that it could be ear mites which also means a trip to the vet is in order. But if you feel a matt of fur behind the ear that may also be the reason he is itching his ear which means you should go to the groomer and have it shaved out.

Yorkies must have their ears cleaned daily. Wiping them out with a damp cotton ball will suffice. Make sure you keep the ears dry. Moisture causes real problems. Also, make sure to pluck out any stray hairs inside the ears. If there is an odor he could have mites or an infection and you'll need to take him to the vet.

the best way to tell if a dog has an ear infection is to smell the inside of the ear. Does it smell clean and fresh or does it smell bad. If it smells bad then this is most likely an ear infection and needs to be treated before perminent damage is done

My Lab gets ear infections. Look in his ear, see if it looks red compared to the other one or if there is discharge or gooey stuff. If yes, go to the vet and they will give you drops. It could also be earmites, which I believe look like black spots in the ear. Everyone means well here, including me, but best not to chance it and damage the dogs hearing. Get it to the vet. Good luck!

Could be or maybe mites. Look inside the ear. Any discharge or odor needs to be looked out by a vet.

i have a teacup maltese and she sometimes scratches her ear alot too. So i went to the vet, and she said that i had to clean her ear EVERY SINGLE DAY, with the ear cleanser and the ear powder. And I do. Now it's fine.

u should go to the vet and check it out cuz not all the time will ppl here kno wut is wrong with your dog. They must be able to see the dog's ear to figure it out...maybe look if the ear is swelling.
