I agree. I am a teacher. And I don't make the state mandated expectations for each class nor to I establish what should be taught. I follow the laws made by the state department of education. If you have a problem with it.......don't look to the teacher. Write your local legsltors, go to board meetings, write to the department of education. It won't change the fact that we are expected to teach our children these skills and will do our best for the kids so that they can succeed in the future.
Remember seventh grade will mean that your child will have that same sort of syllabus in all classes every hour.

The reading may seem like a little much, but I think 7th grade is about the age when they really start getting serious with homework and studying. Now is when your child is going to pick up a lot of their school and study habits so it's good to give them the work. I would positively enforce the amount of work that the teacher is giving.your child. Good luck!

no i dont think it is too much for a child to learn.....in the span of a month or so. Is the teacher expecting students to learn this in a matter of a week or so? If so you need to tell that teacher that that is way too much to have dumped on your child at one time. What a bag!

Not at all. If a child has time to learn how to surf the net, beat video games, remember cheat codes, chat on-line, talk on the phone, etc. then he/she should be made to make time to learn from and do school assignments!

Looks to me like most of it should be in class work. I don't think it's too much. Like I said, it's probably class work that they will be doing as groups, etc during class time. And reading a chapter a day isn't that difficult either. Make sure your child gets a swift kick in the tush for motivation if he/she is saying its too much.

My daughter is going into seventh grade and I would say that is a fair amount of homework. Last year she had some assignments that looked very tough and they were surprisingly simple - sometimes the instructions are a bit wordy. Just be glad that your school is challenging its students, many don't.

I don't think it is that much. He will learn a lot more this way. If he is having troubles then talk to the teacher about how much work it is.

Seriously........ours schools are so far behind and you're saying it's TOO MUCH?!? Maybe if parents cut back on the TV and Video games our kids wouldn't have trouble with even this workload, which by the way I do not believe to be excessive.

You certainly have a downer on Mrs Montgomery, don't you?

The children are being asked to do ONE CHAPTER of a book a day. She is also trying to teach them grammar, which 80% of the people who use this site could do with.

She is making the children work, she expects high standards. That is not a crime against humanity.
