My JRT has been sneezing, inverted sneezing, and his eyes are all irritated and runny---symptoms similar to a human suffering hay fever. He also has a slight skin condition,so my vet does nothing but subscripe prednesolone for him, which is no help to him whatsoever. I keep pointing out his nose and eye problems, but the vet says the prednesolone will help with that, and doesn't offer any alternative. Is there any other medication that will help him? Poor little guy is miserable.

I would switch vets first off. If they do not change the course of treatment when you tell him/her that what they have prescribed for your dog is not working and the symtoms are not getting any better then I would look for another vet. Dogs do get severe alergies. Most of the alergies come from the food they eat. I am not a big supporter of the expensive dog foods, but in cases like yours, you may need to switch brands of dog food to one of the science diet foods. Try a brand for week or so and if symtoms do not improve, try another. Also when you switch, you should also take away dog treats as well and only use bits of the dog food for a treat as the treats have alot of "extra" ingredients. Depending on the size your dog, you can give benedryl capsuls ( I would check with vet on this first) to help with the running eyes and itchy skin. Our dog is about 80 lbs and can take two pills three times a day. A good vet can and will prescribe medication to help with the allergy symtoms and most will want to do some testing (which can be expensive) to find out what the animal is allergic to. Don't let your dog suffer with the allergies while the vet does nothing but give him steroids. Try to find what he / she is allergic to and treat it just as you would if it was you.

My dog has allergies too -- we have found that cortisone (sp) works best. The shots are hard on their hearts so we use the 5mg pills. The vet will adjust the number of pills to suit your dog's weight. Good luck!!

some breeds have severe watery eyes. in case you observe that she has pus or a yellow/eco-friendly discharge coming from her eyes and/or bloodshot eyes, then you truthfully favor to get to the vet. Human to dogs chilly viruses at the on the spot are not contagious.
