I have used a digital camera to do this. That way I can take as many pictures as I want until it turns out looking good. I have done this with old pictures or pics that you can't take in or scan. It works great!

First of all, a scanner would be the easy solution to this problem -- and it can be purchased for less than $100 in most stores.
As far as photographs of displays like in an Art Exhibit or Museum -- by all means, you can take a picture of a picture.
It is blurry mostly because you have not focused, or your hand shakes or a combination of the two -- a Tripod stops the shakes and stabilizes the camera (because I am assuming your lens is open for quite a bit of time).

Yes, my husband does this all the time when he is experimenting with making copies of old photos. He usually uses a tiny tripod and stands the photo because he uses a setting without a flash. However, you'll get a better product if you scan the photo and then print it.
I hope this helps.

They don't turn out to well that way. It would be easier taking it to a photo copy machine and make a copy. They have those Kodak photo centers at like walmart and you can make good copies of pictures. It's less then a dollar and you get the pictures immediately.

Yes, you can. You have to beware of how you take the photo because of blurriness and/or glare. It's easier just to scan it and print or take it to a photo shop and let them redo it for you. Costs about 10.00 for the photo shop, free if you know someone with a scanner or if you have one.

would buying a cheap second-hand scanner for your pc not be a quicker and easier alternative?
this option holds the added advantage that the pictures will never turn out blurry either, plus you capture every small bit of detail within the original photo.
you can get them on ebay.com from only $10 (u.s. dollars), see here:

you need a macro lens, good lighting and a tripod. this used to be a good source of income for photographers before the invention of scanners.
