true, because we all are addicts to a practice or a habit and not necessarily to drugs, narcotics, alcohol, women or gambling. we are creatures of habits thus we are all addicts.
"i don't want to" is not a "valid" reason for anything cuz that is not a reason. it is more of an abstinence from a reply because of its lack of intellectual reasoning.
if one gives a reason like "because i know its harmful effects on me and my family" type of answers, it reinforces your affirmation to stay away from it cuz you fully understand its evil effects.
but its all semantics and how one chooses to understand it.

Perhaps they mean that every body has the psychological potential to become an addict. That lady sounds a bit loopy though to be preaching that to every body without clarification, maybe she just wanted some attention? As far as the statement that "I don't want to" no being valid, screw her! That's a very valid reason, it's the one that I use.

she is wrong and has a jaded outlook on life, I suspect that she has very few actual success storie out of her program. It seems to me that she is pushing people towards taking drugs. I don't want to is a perfectly valid reason for never taking drugs. What a moron. Maybe she is making excuses for her own addictions.

Those people are just trying to justify the existence of those worthless programs. If someone is an addict, going to a program won't help. They have to want to quit.

Your philosophy is a good one.

Old saying: "If it don't (sic) make sense, there's a buck in it somewhere!"
Isaiah 44: 24 (KJV)
Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
