I don't agree at all. A year to you must be a whole lot longer than a year is to me. Has anyone shored up the Levy's' yet? Has demolition began? Has the EPA cleared the land to build? That answer would be no. Most of the homeowners are probably still fighting insurance companies. If the people rebuild, the constructions costs are much higher, and the insurance is going to be even worse now. Probably the good thing is that many of the people there were renters so they are able to pick up and relocate. The bad thing is that they will never be able to afford living in New Orleans again. All the home owners in those neighborhoods are the ones that are screwed.

I stay in New Orleans and from what i'm able to hold mutually from Bush and Nagin and Blanco, it is going to take approximately 3-5 years in particular because of the fact they pick a million) funds and 2) the thank you to rebuild it extra effective to stand up to larger winds, growing to be floods and additionally to help restoration up the a number of extra run down factors in New Orleans.

Someone just said last night that the perception is that "black life is not as important as white life." Actually, let me extrapolate a bit. Let's say that a category 5 hurricane hit Crawford, Texas, or Greenwich, Connecticut, how fast and complete would the rebuilding take then? The real picture seems to be that either "poor life in not as worthy as wealthy life", or, "if I keep doing it wrong, maybe they'll have me stop doing it". This is a common mind-game played in the American workplace. Why not at the highest levels of FEMA? If there is to be rebuilding of NO, the residents and visitors of this lvoely, historic city will do it, and we should give them all the support we can, even if we have to visit the Netherlands and learn how to build REAL dikes!

The local officials are spending all their time complaining that the Federal government has not done their job. If they would use the resources that they have been given by the Federal government, much more progress would have been made. New Orleans id not the only city to be devastated by the 2005 hurricane season. It is the only one to show no signs of recovery despite more Federal aid than all other areas combined.

I have also seen middle class areas that are not rebuilt, so it's not just the poor, a lot of Middle class have ins, but that is it and if the ins co. are not going to help you, then the middle class are going to have problems rebuilding. They have to fight tooth and nail to get the ins co. to help them. middle class dose not mean you have enough money in the bank to build another house on your own.
