I can't believe how pathetic many of you are. All of you who are mocking God (saying that satan's made up, or some tool) are only doing it so that you can point out to everyone how different you think you are.
To doubt the existence of satan (or God) is just plain stupid. Don't tell me that you think satan's some tool made up by the church. Satan is a very real thing. His entire purpose is to undermine God's plan. Every soul that is "lost" to satan is another soul that won't be with God in heaven. Therefore, by taking God's worshipers, satan believes he's winning. However, the ultimate plan (apocalypse and stuff) says that satan will be tossed into the fiery lake, just like the rest of you who don't realize God's presence.
It's sad that all of you feel the need to use this site to point out how different you think you are. "Look at me, I don't believe in God" So you all post questions and answers, so that you all feel accepted with the other athiests.
How pathetic...

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.
Love and blessings

No. current beliefs would say our creator is supreme and perfect. but of course, these are just beliefs so, what the heck. but what would an all-powerful, supreme creator need to fear?
Some say, satan is a spiritual representation, or god of hate and anger, but if you are talking about the supreme evil. there are so many theories about it. some myths would say it is that imperfections left during the creation period, others say it is the divine ones shadow, or evil self. a popular belief would be a rebbelion of the creator's subordinates, or inferior creatures. other would say it is the other choice, created by knowing good/evil, as well as free will. since there are so many theories and myths discussing The Creator, Satan and Evil, it is best to put it in analogical manner..either the creator did created this, satan, was coexsting with it, or is somehow the imperfection of His creation. take your pick.

satan is just a tool used by the church in the early days to basically get more people on gods side.. its much easier to believe and give your life to something if theres a horrible consequence for not, (like being eaten by satan, or burnt or whatever hes meant to do to sinners), its all bull ****... ive got nothing against christians but the whole hell and satan thing is just spiritual terrorism

No, Satan is an excuse for human behaviour and natural disasters.
When people ask why did God let that sh*t happen? (Earthquakes, tsunamis, religious genocide etc.) The religionists blame Satan. So it's not God's fault, not their fault. The perfect alibi.

Satan is just another level of control - i.e. God is the carrot and Satan is the stick.

He was part of the mass control and brain washing technique back at the time of the Salem witch trials. Notice how the devil is invisible too.

Not at all. Satan is allowed to exist because God allows him to. He too will pay in the end. It is written.
