I plan on going to Canada next month just to explore. I'm not sure what I need to enter into Canada. Do I need a passport? Or can I just use my birth certificate?

If you are a US citizen you need proof of citizenship and a photo ID. A birth certificate and driver's license will do it.

These sites will give you all the information you need. I hope this helps.

You don't as yet need a passport to get into Canada, but you will need a valid photo id, and a birth certificate.

Have a great time! I sure enjoyed it when I went to Alberta.

If your American you'll need your drivers licence and your birth certificate. As of January 2007 you will need a passport to travel between the USA and Canada. If your from anywhere else, you'll need a passport

I believe you can still use your birth certificate or if you have one, State ID or Driver's License. It's not 'til Jan 2007 that your going to need a Passport to travel everywhere in the world.

If you are an American, right now all you need is photo ID (driver's license is good) and proof of your citizenship / residency (birth certificate or green card).

If you have a passport, I suggest using that. It's much easier and if things continue the way they look to be going, we'll all need one to get back into the US someday.

From the US State Department web site:

The travel initiative requirements will be rolled out in phases. The proposed implementation timeline is as follows:

December 31, 2006 – Passport required for all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
December 31, 2007 – Passport required for all land border crossings, as well as air and sea travel.

Its alot easier if you have a passport. But yes, you can still go with your birth certificate and another form of ID. Drivers license, etc.

You don't need a passport yet but starting 2008 you will...you can use your birth certificate. I'm not sure but I think it needs to be notified or something. call a travel agent. they might know.

well first of lall, where are you from, what's your citizenship? Taking a passport is the easiest thing you can do. Especially if you can enter any country with it.
