only way to avoid getting split ends is to be really gentle with your hair, careful brushing / combing will help stop breakage and splitting. you do need to get all the ends trimmed off to start with nice blunt cut ends, then use a conditioner that is rich enough to coat the ends and protect them

Get a trim every six to eight weeks. Dont use too many heated appliances, if you do, use protective leave in oil/spray/conditioner so your hair doesn't dry out. Oh, use a deep conditioner once a week and when your in the shower only shampoo the top of your head, the lather will run down to the tips anyway. If your hair is very dry use a tiny bit of deep conditioner at the tip every time you wash, especially if you've got long locks. Dont rub it in all over as it could make your scalp greasy.
Word of advice: if you already got em you will have to get a trim, don't pull at them because you will only weaken your hair. No other way to get rid of em. Just prevent em :-)

The ONLY way to get rid of split ends is to get a trim. To prevent split ends, get your hair trimmed at least every 6 to 8 weeks, be sure to use a good conditioner, do a leave-in conditioner once a week, use styling products like gel and mouse, and don't over style with heat. To tame split ends between now and your next hair cut, use one of those Palm-aids like John Freida

Get a trim every 4-6 weeks will prevent new split ends...because like one girl said earlier...they can travel up the hair shaft.
Protein treatments, can infuse proteins in your hair to slow split ends down in their travels to the scalp. Also, some protein treatments can actually bond split ends back together, though it only holds through several shampoos.
Also...doing too many protein treatments can crystalize your hair and it will break if it moves...in the wind, etc. Limit yourself to four treatments during any two week period. And more importantly, follow the manufacturer's directions. Don't forget to trim, trim, trim.

You have to cut them off. There is no other way. The best conditioner to use on split ends is Pantene. When styling try to do as little as possible to the ends so that they stay healthier for longer. There is no way to actually prevent them. You need to trim your hair every 6 weeks in order to keep them at bay

Split ends come from all sorts of things. To get rid of them you have to cut them off. To prevent them you would need a natural bristel brush for dry hair, a detangling comb for wet hair. Avoid chemicals and excessive heat from hair applicances. You could use intensive conditioners on the ends only several times per week and watch your nutrition....vitamin and minerals deficiencies show up in your hair!

You won't have to get your hair cut short unless that's how slpit your ends are, but the only way to get rid of split ends is to lop them off. I can't tell you much about preventing them in the future, since I don't know enough about your hair. But a professional hairstylist *would* be able to tell you how to keep from getting so many split ends -- find a good one to trim of the current batch and ask him/her/it what to do.

You have to cut the split ends to get rid of them, otherwise they will keep going up the hair shaft and get worse. Pretty much everything u do to your hair can cause them ( ie, brushing, blowdrying, flat ironing), so you just need to try to minimize the amount of damage you do, get trims like every so often, and use a conditioner....Hope that helps

Go to a salon, and get a haircut... the longer you go without one, the more prone you are to split-ends. Also try using Pantene Pro-V. It's better is you use shampoo and conditioner that are separate.
I used to have fried, damaged hair, and my hair is sooo healthy now! No more split-ends!
Also, do NOT brush your hair when it is still wet.. that could damage your hair and break it as well. Use a spray that will remove tangles, and do not blow-dry your hair at a high setting. Towel dry if possible.

Avoid them by not using heated tools on your hair and using a good shampoo. The only way to get rid of them is to cut them off. It is much better to have short healthy hair than long damaged hair trust me
